Oil palm tree
Oil palm tree (Elaeïsguineensis) is a member of the family Palmae, sub family Cocoideae (which also includes the coconut), genus Elaeis. The genus contains two main species: E. guineensis or African oil palm, and E.melanococca or American oil palm; the latter is only valuable for hybridization. Male and female inflorescence occur on the same tree in alternated cycles of the same sex, and are only differentiated after approximately two years.
