Being a widow with a burden of having 3 children in higher\r\nlevel of education Lokongo Josephine was not sure of the future of herself in\r\nterms of food security as she could live on one meal a day and her children\r\neducation was not certain.

Although her children were among the lucky ones who got the\r\nsponsorship under the district quarter system to the University; but her\r\nresponsibility still remains as a parent of providing some of the school\r\nrequirements, like accommodations fees, clothing, bathing soap, transport;\r\nbesides that she still has to provide food at home, for other children who are\r\nat the lower primary. She became a NAADS beneficiary in 2011 as a food security\r\nfarmer; she received One Mature Pregnant female pig (sow) as a support from the\r\nNAADS program which was in line with the enterprise of her choice. She said the\r\nproject has brought smiles on her face as she was not ashamed to tell me of her\r\ntotal monthly expenses of UGX 177,500, while her income is UGX 2,780,000.

Josephine donated six female pigs to the six members from\r\nher group, and was left with a balance of 4 females and 2 males which she is\r\nstill rearing, out of these, 3 are pregnant and will furrow in one month’s\r\ntime, the other six she donated to the other group members were also are about\r\nto furrow. Through piggery farming Josephine has been able to pay school feed\r\nfor her 2 children who are at the university, and one who is a candidate, she\r\nbuys food for her home

With all the success Josephine has achieved from piggery\r\nfarming she also faces a few challenges of Poor housing which needs\r\nimprovements, by cementing it and a good iron sheets to provide shelter for the\r\nanimals, Lack of High quality feeds to feed the pigs especially during rainy\r\nseasons when the crops are in the gardens
